Canine Bowen

The Canine Bowen Technique

The Canine Bowen Technique is based on the human Bowen.   It was adapted to be used on dogs by husband and wife team Ron and Sally Askew, who in 2003 designed a professional program of training for qualified human Bowen therapists   to become properly skilled Canine Bowen therapists.

The technique is a gentle non-invasive hands –on technique that promotes healing, pain relief and energy rebalancing. An important part of the Canine Bowen Technique is that treatment is not forced and the dog can walk away at anytime.   A dog instinctively knows what it needs to promote and maintain balance in all systems of its body to achieve optimum health.

As with all holistic therapies, the dog’s body is treated as a whole, without referral to named disease.

There is no pulling or cracking of joints, no insertion of needles and no manipulation. The hands on part of the session lasts approximately 20 minutes (including frequent breaks to allow the dog's body to assimilate the information provided by the gentle moves). However I would advise owners to allow 1 hour for the whole session, which will include the consultation process and the observation/assessment, and allow the dog time to become comfortable with the therapist.  Over the next 3-4 days the dog may experience reactions as its body accepts The Bowen Technique and realigns itself.  The average number of treatments required is 1-2.

The Canine Bowen Technique should be used in conjunction with orthodox veterinary treatment and is only available on veterinary referral. to obtain a vet referal form please go to download or alternatively contact me with your name, address and tel.no. and I will get a form out to you as soon as possible.

The Canine Bowen Technique can also be used to good effect as a maintenance and prevention therapy, and can be very beneficial for active, hard working dogs, and dogs used for competitions in obedience, agility, or trialling. by helping to keep the dog's body in optimum balance, a periodic maintenance session can also be very useful for the elderly dog or dogs with chronic or degenerative conditions.
